Martin Creed ‘Thinking / Not Thinking’

Martin Creed 'Thinking / Not Thinking' Pink Pigeon

Thinking / Not Thinking is a song by Turner Prize-winning artist Martin Creed, released on Telephone Records, Creed’s own label, on 20 January 2011. Accompanying the CD is a DVD of the music video directed by Creed, starring canine duo Orson and Sparky. Sparky’s the little one.

The song is lyrically pretty straight forward; ” I was thinking… and then I wasn’t thinking… and then I was thinking… thinking, not thinking”. Profound or simply funny? The video is likewise pretty straight forward, Orson and Sparky endearing. Sparky, with his little short quick steps, walks across screen whenever we hear “thinking”. Orson, with his languid loopy stride, whenever we hear “not thinking”.
At one moment Orson passes Sparky – “thinking, not thinking”. The end. Brilliant!

We not only encoded and authored the master DVD, but also did basic colour grading on the video. The aim was to take the pink tint out of the white background, and improve the dogs. In Final Cut Pro we created a matte, using primarily the luma channel, to separate the dogs from the background.
Then we were able to enhance the background and the dogs independently.

The Thinking / Not Thinking CD and DVD will be available to purchase at Mothers, a major Martin Creed exhibition opening at Hauser & Wirth on 20 January 2011.

I saw this on BBC Breakfast and thought it was brilliant. I would love to buy a copy. Where can it be purchased apart from the exhibition?
